and Drew witnesses her getting mugged and tries to run the person down with no luck. His duet with Baldwin in the latter half of the film (singing REO Speedwagon's "I Can't Fight This Feeling") was truly worth the price of admission alone. Brand, however, was a pleasant surprise in the singing department and stole every scene he was in with his fun little quips. It's hard to take Baldwin seriously in this role because he's not much of a singer and I just kept seeing Jack Donaghy in a wig, but it was obvious the man was having a blast. nightclub called The Bourbon Room off of the Sunset Strip, which is run by Dennis Dupree (Alec Baldwin) and Lonny Barnett (Russell Brand).

We soon meet Drew Boley (Diego Boneta) who also has big dreams to become a famous singer, just like Sherrie (what a coincidence!). Right away it's easy to tell that this movie is going to be corny but the real difference here is that the movie knows it and it fully embraces the cheesiness, and the audience should too. Sherrie Christian (Julianne Hough), who is just a small town girl living in a lonely world from Oklahoma, sets off to Los Angeles with nothing but big dreams and a suitcase full of records. The story is a simple one that we've all heard before. It's like an alternative universe where everything is shinier and everyone's problems can be solved by singing. The year is 1987, set in a Los Angeles that never really existed.
